What Orbit Does NOT Collect

Browsing History

Orbit does not collect, transmit, or store your browsing history. Your history is stored locally on your device and is never sent to our servers. You can clear your history at any time from the browser settings.

Website Content

We do not see what you type into websites, what you read, or what you download. The content of your web browsing stays between you and the websites you visit.

Personal Data for Advertising

Orbit does not participate in behavioral advertising. We do not build profiles about your interests, we do not track you across websites, and we do not sell any data to advertisers or data brokers.

Search Queries

When you search from the address bar, your queries go directly to your chosen search provider (default: DuckDuckGo). We do not intercept, log, or analyze your searches.

What Orbit May Process

Update Checks

To keep your browser secure and up-to-date, Orbit periodically checks for updates. When this happens:

  • Your current version number is sent to our update server
  • Your operating system version (Windows 10 or 11) is included
  • Your IP address is logged temporarily for rate limiting

This data is used solely to deliver the correct update and is not linked to your identity.

Crash Reports (Opt-in)

If Orbit crashes, you may be asked if you want to send a crash report. These reports are entirely optional. If you choose to send one:

  • Technical information about the crash (stack traces, memory state) is collected
  • Your IP address is included for abuse prevention
  • No personal data or browsing content is included

You can disable crash reporting entirely in Settings > Privacy.

Diagnostics (Opt-in)

If enabled, diagnostic data helps us understand performance issues:

  • Memory usage statistics
  • Startup time measurements
  • Feature usage counts (e.g., how often bookmarks are used)

This feature is disabled by default. You can enable it in Settings > Privacy if you want to help improve Orbit.

AI Features

Orbit includes optional AI-powered features (such as the AI assistant panel). Here's how we handle data for these features:

Local Processing (Default)

By default, AI features run entirely on your device using local models. No data leaves your computer.

Cloud Processing (If Enabled)

If you choose to use cloud-based AI features and provide your own API key:

  • Page content is only sent when you explicitly trigger an AI action (e.g., clicking "Summarize")
  • Your API key is stored securely in the browser's encrypted storage
  • API keys are never exposed to websites or extensions
  • Data is sent directly to your chosen AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic)

Note: We do not have access to your API keys or the content you process through AI features.

Third-Party Services

Orbit integrates with a limited number of third-party services:

Search Providers

Default search is DuckDuckGo. You can change this in Settings. Your search queries are subject to the privacy policy of your chosen provider.

Safe Browsing

If enabled, Orbit uses Google's Safe Browsing API to check URLs against known malicious sites. When you visit a page:

  • A partial URL hash is sent to Google for verification
  • Full URLs are never transmitted
  • Your cookies and account data are not included

You can disable Safe Browsing in Settings > Privacy.

Update Infrastructure

Software updates are distributed through our servers and may use CDN services for faster delivery. These services may see your IP address but do not receive any identifying information.

Your Controls

You have full control over your data in Orbit:

Clear Data

Go to Settings > Privacy to clear:

  • Browsing history
  • Cookies and site data
  • Cached images and files
  • Download history
  • Passwords (if stored)
  • Autofill data

Disable Features

You can turn off any feature you don't want:

  • Crash reporting
  • Diagnostic data
  • Safe Browsing
  • Search suggestions
  • Autofill
  • AI features

Export & Delete

You can export your bookmarks and settings at any time. Uninstalling Orbit removes all local data from your device.

Data Retention

Any data we do collect is retained only as long as necessary:

  • Update logs: 30 days
  • Crash reports: 90 days
  • Diagnostic data: 180 days

After these periods, data is automatically deleted.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Notify users through the browser's update notification
  • Highlight material changes in the changelog

Continued use of Orbit after policy changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
